Like
most sheep flocks, our flock started as a 4-H project in 1985. Raising
competitive Hampshires for over 20 years, some things have changed, but
our goal remains the same: Focusing on quality instead of quantity.
For the first decade and a half we were
raising and showing Hampshires that had pedigrees with rich genetic
backgrounds such as Heggemeier, Bedinger, Nichols, and Kirlin. Being
competitive in the show ring was our focus, and we were quite successful
at the county, state, and national levels. In recent years, things have
changed, although the focus of raising quality over quantity still
exists. While you can still find a few ewes around here with Heggemeier,
Bedinger, Nichols, and Kirlin in their pedigree, it will be more common
to find the names like Poe, Cabaniss, and Miller. We are raising Hamps
that are structurally correct, level, and muscular while keeping a good
frame size. This allows us to fit a market for both
competitive club lambs as well as
registered Hampshire sheep.
We still believe that there is nothing
prettier than a perfectly fitted
Hampshire ewe in the show ring. However, we think that there is nothing
more practical than a Hampshire ewe,
shown without wool, to expose her qualities or inadequacies. We thank
you for visiting our site and invite you to contact us to talk about
your next show or breeding prospect.
